'It is Maltese traditions that make Malta stand out as an individual nation and the Maltese people truly unique.' This belief lies at the heart of Fino's campaign to celebrate Maltese crafts and is also shared by Carmen Mangion of Zurrieq, whose dedication to local traditions has earned her a place as Fino's featured person this month.
Well known for her famous preserves, a housewife and mother of two, Carmen started preserving vegetables and fruit when she was still a teenager. Now, 30 years on, her one-time hobby has been transformed into a fully-fledged profession.
Her specialities include fig jam, whole preserved figs, Maltese ġardiniera, and artichoke hearts - all of which are highly sought after by connoisseurs. For this reason, she is a regular at events like L-Imnarja, where she is usually found cheerfully swapping tips with fellow producers.
Nothing goes to waste with the Mangions, they use animal skin and bones to make traditional Maltese musical instruments such as iż-żaqq, iż-żafżafa, and iż-żummara.
Through constant commitment and creativity, Carmen and her family have earned Fino's admiration and respect.
Fino's event features a lively Carmen in the comfort of the Roccafiorita kitchen by Veneta Cucine. The kitchen's classic style blends perfectly with its rustic surroundings. This kitchen is just one of 20 on display at the Fino showroom in Imrieħel.
Fino is introducing new offers on any new kitchen ordered till the end of this month. One automatically qualifies for the draw of a brand new Fino Cinquecento, which will take place in February.
