Builder in critical condition

A 47-year-old worker from Rabat is in a critical condition after a one-storey fall at a construction site in Naxxar early yesterday morning.

The police said the man, who is the owner of Grech Constructions, was engaged in construction work in Mraden Street when for some reason he lost his balance and fell into a yard.

The injured worker was given first aid by Naxxar mayor Maria Deguara, who is a doctor, and who happened to be on the site of the accident and realised what had happened.

An ambulance took the worker to Mater Dei Hospital where he was found to be suffering from life- threatening injuries, the police said.

Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani appointed a team of court experts to help her in an inquiry.
