It worries me that Malta, of all places, should think that their very Maltese essence will be threatened by this onslaught of immigrants. Malta is such a small strategic island.
They have been raped and pillaged and conquered by just about every neighbour from the Romans and Scandinavians, to the French, Turks, modern Italians, Germans, British etc. and perversely how good it has been. Were such a small island left to multiply by its own devices it surely would be full of inbred imbeciles by now. So what is this Maltese essence that should be so dearly clung to? It is no more pure than the English or British essence that my sad brethren use to reject people in need. We also are Roman, Russian, Scandinavian, French, German and certainly all that we conquered in our blood spilt past.
It worries me that maybe the essence is just that we are all identifiably white?
It worries me that at no point in time will we see a fellow human being as a fellow human being, rather than a free loading opportunist, hell bent on stealing the benefits of our fruitful land.
It worries me that at no point in time will we realise that we are fortunate that by accident, we just happen to have been born into a more fruitful land.
It worries me that many more than the 60 or so who have perished recently will continue to perish, with hardly a passing thought, or a feeling of compassion.
It worries me that mothers and babies are consigned to detention.
It worries me that the Church, of both denominations, is deafeningly silent, and seemingly gutless to react to this human disaster. Thank God above that a few true Christian spirits who go it alone, know that this is just not right.
It worries me that people say, "they should be sent back to where they came from".
So just how many of you want to spend all that you own, to travel in an unseaworthy craft and knowingly risking your life and those of your family to go from here to where they have come from?
I suspect no one.
That's why I worry.
