This month it's less a must-see and more of a must-do. Heritage Malta's heritage trails are rightly popular among residents and tourists alike; and this month's trail is particularly interesting.

This coming Sunday the trail is entitled The Great Siege Heritage Trail. Participants will muster in the Grandmaster's State Rooms in the Palace in Valletta at 8.45 a.m. There will follow a short talk by Kenneth Cassar on Matteo Perez d'Aleccio's cycle of 12 Great Siege frescoes in the Palace. After this the party will walk to Fort St Elmo, where the bloodiest battles of the siege took place. After a short dissertation by Godwin Vella, buses will take everyone on to Vittoriosa and in particular to Fort St Angelo. Godwin Vella will again give the talk at the fort. Then, after a coffee break, the party will move into the heart of Vittoriosa, to the Inquisitor's Palace. Here Catherine Tabone will put the Palace into the Great Siege context. And - without wishing to blag up this particular Heritage Trail too much, this looks like being one of the most impressive so far.

Booking is obviously essential and can be done from Heritage Malta's Head Office. Tel: 2295 4312. Tickets cast €12 each for non-members, €8 each for members. Limited tickets are available.
