The House Select Committee discussing issues related to democracy is inviting applications from organisations and members of the public wishing to attend a series of public hearings.
The hearings will deal with issues grouped broadly under the following subjects: strengthening of Parliament; updating of the Constitution; the strengthening of transparency and accountability, including the Commission Against Corruption, the Office of the Ombudsman, conflicts of interest of MPs and ministers and state funding of political parties.
The committee met again yesterday under the presidency of Speaker Louis Galea.
Those wishing to participate in the hearings can download an application form from www.parliament.gov.mt and send it to selectcommittee@gov.mt, or on fax number 2559 6400, or by regular mail to the Select Committee, Office of the Clerk, House of Representatives, Valletta, by September 24.
Adverts will be carried in newspapers giving details about the applications that need to be filled.
