WHAT A SHAME THAT NOT A SINGLE ANIMAL ASSOCIATION WAS CHOSEN TO BENEFIT FROM THIS FUND!

Who chooses which associations and bodies benefit, anyway?

Shameful!
Absolutely shameful.
Joe Camilleri - Secretary Nadur Youngsters (on 4/9/08)
The money donated to Nadur Youngsters has gone towards the upgrading of our training ground with artificial turf and proper floodlighting so that our footballers can train in an appropriate environment in line with progress being made in all spheres of our islands. All clubs and NGOs can apply for these funds and you have to prove the expenses incurred by producing VAT receipts confirming the expenditure made.

For these past two seasons the GFA under-13 league and knock-outs, and some of the under-11 tournaments, were held on this pitch to the enjoyment of all concerned. Our club is proud that through hard work and investment, we now have a very good facility.

How come there is no mention of the funds that were given to profitable companies (for the juventus event) in the pre election days?? .
This is another PR exercise.

How silly can Mr. Fenech get I wonder ? Distributing the good causes fund to sports organisations is so stupid. This really shows how much the government doesn't care about sports (not the other way round). Government should setup a Sports Fund to promote and help sports clubs not donate them money from the good causes fund.

I must congrastulate Minister Tonio Fenech for the encouragement he is giving on behalf
of the Lawrence Gonzi Govermentt to Small but hardworking NGO's in Malta. -
what the goverment promised is being put in facts to-day 4th.September.2008

I must encourage Minister Tonio Fenech for his efforts towards the Maltese fellow countryman.

Though the Maltese are certainly generous towards many social causes, raising funds for animal welfare is possibly the most daunting in that it attracts far lower support (monetary or otherwise) in our society. The higher authorities ought to lead by example and help out the growing sanctuaries that are mainly supported by volunteers.

Let's not be stupid now. You have to apply to get these funds. Maybe no one else applied!

There are other football clubs in Gozo which need financial help. Why Nadur Youngsters FC only? Is it because a Minister and Parlamentary Secretary hails form there?

I think that if they helped out a stray dogs organisation would have been much appropriate than helping out Marsa Cricket club, Nadu r youngsters, musical school etc. these animals are more in need of help. some are going through rough time.

Where are the promises the government made before election with regards to stray animals.?
apgrech (on 4/9/08)
Stray dogs and cats can be put in the care of prisoners. They can look after them and walk them around and at the same time keep them busy with something they would enjoy.

I totally agree. Stray Dogs associations should be considered in the equation. These are managed by very dedicated people out of their own free will. It would be very encouraging for them to continue helping and saving our true and loyal friends!!

I am baffled as to why the Marsa Cricket Club was awarded funds to the tune of €7,000. This is an exclusive members only club that is mostly made up of ex patriates who meet up on weekends and occupy a large piece of government owned land in order to play their exclusive sport, that if anything only serves as a reminder of our colonial past. I wonder on how they are going to use these funds because I have never seen any cricket promotions in schools or in the media. I guess that in true colonial spirit the Marsa Cricket Club will organise a few drinks for it`s paying members sponsored by the good causes fund. Cheers!!

It seems that cricket attracts more votes than the rest of the animal world...similar to the pre-election England vs Italy veterans football match generous financing maybe!

Doesnt any organisation of stray dogs is given a sum to help them out?
