Maltese journalists are being encouraged to participate in an EU-wide competition titled For DiversityAgainst Discrimination.

Organised in cooperation with European Youth Press and the Association of European Journalists, the aim of the competition is to recognise journalists who write articles on discrimination and diversity issues either in online or print media.

With a value of up to €4,500, prizes include the chance to participate a conference on discrimination in the EU, visit Brussels to meet EU officials and MEPs, or electronic equipment to help the winner with his or her work. An independent jury of media professionals and anti-discrimination experts will select winners in the 27 EU member states, including Malta.

National winners will then compete for the overall European award.

Entries can be submitted via the Journalist Award 2008 website. The competition closes at midday on October 31.

A special award will also be given for articles which examine discrimination against the Roma.
