The finalists for this year's edition of the Malta Journalism Awards, organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists, will be announced this week and the winners will be presented with the awards at a presentation ceremony in November, Roderick Agius, awards coordinator said.

He was speaking at an event where HSBC Bank Malta announced it was renewing its sponsorship for the print journalism - news category of the award.

IĠM chairman Malcolm J. Naudi said that throughout the last 18 years, the Malta Journalism Awards have served as the best showcase for Maltese journalism in its many facets. The present edition has attracted some of the best Maltese journalists, a number of whom have already won their respective categories in previous years.

During the presentation, HSBC Malta chief executive Alan Richards said: "HSBC has been sponsoring the print journalism - news category of the Malta Journalism Awards for a number of years since the bank admired the Institute's efforts in raising further the level of journalism".

The submissions have been evaluated by an independent panel of judges.
