ADT denies bus owners' claims on emissions tests

The Transport Authority this afternoon denied claims by the bus owners that emission tests by VRT stations and its own officials were being carried out under wrong specifications.

Replying to a statement issued yesterday by the Public Transport Association, the ADT said the standards for tests on heavy vehicles were adopted from EU directives.

The ADT said that while the PTA claimed that one of the tests was carried out on 3,000 revs, the test report it enclosed did not indicate any revs.

The authority said the testing procedure here was the same as in the UK and other European countries.

It reiterated the government's commitment to replace the buses with vehicles which produced less emissions and which came in different sizes according to their routes.

Dr Gatt, Malta Gozo and all our relatives are aware that this assertion is more smoke screen to delay the inevitable.

At this rate there is absolutely no chance of re organisation by 2010 if your Ministry will continue to participate in this charade. Since according to the TA & ADT the test is as per specifications lets move to the nuts and bolts of the re organisation!

Bus testing procedures in Malta are "the same as in the UK and in other European countries". All well and good. When will the poor passenger's patience testing procedures will be as good. At the moment - and certainly for the past sixty years or so - they are, and have been, simply horrid and unbearable. The ADT and PTA will certainly agree on this!!
