The police have arrested three men and a woman after finding 200 grams of cocaine yesterday afternoon.

The operation started a few days before following suspicion that Nigerians were bringing drugs to Malta in capsules in their stomachs.

The first arrest yesterday was a 33-year-old Nigerian who arrived in Malta on Friday. A search on his person and in his hotel room in Bugibba turned up 19 drug capsules. The man had been to Malta on a number of occasions.

Further investigations led to the arrest later in the day of a 39-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay, a 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from Sta Lucija. Drugs were found in their car.

Magistrate Anthony Vella is heading an inquiry.
