Osneph Bonnici, 25, of Gudja. today pleaded guilty in court to punching a policeman who intervened in a fight which broke out in Santu Wistin Street, Paceville, at about 4 a.m. this morning.

He was charged with violently resisting PC Pierguido Saliba, threatening and slightly injuring him, breaching public order and disobeying police orders.

Magistrate Antonio Vella heard how the policeman, who was off duty, intervened in a fight between the accused, his friends and two women. When PC Saliba identified himself as a policeman, Mr Bonnici punched him.

Magistrate Vella handed Mr Bonnici a two-year conditional discharge. Police inspector Bernard Spiteri prosecuted, while lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.
