8 kg of cocaine found in luggage at the airport
Police are to carry out forensic tests on an unmarked bag after eight kilogrammes of cocaine, worth tens of thousands of euros, was discovered at the airport on Friday.
The bag is believed to have arrived in Malta on July 4, but the individuals meant to collect it are thought to have removed the identification tags and left it there, possibly fearing a search.
The bag was stored in an area for unclaimed luggage and was only opened as a matter of procedure by customs officers on Friday.
The cocaine was found in a number of packets concealed in a blanket.
The luggage is believed to have been on board an Air Malta flight from Amsterdam.
The haul has a street value of up to €750,000 according to experts.

It's seems unlikely that this bag remained unchecked from July 4th until last Friday. I would say that police and customs were well aware of its contents and hoping for someone to come and claim it. The important thing is that a large amount of cocaine has been removed from the streets, so well done to all concerned.
