Primary health and breast screening

The breast screening issue has been agreed upon and the government intends to make the necessary preparations for this to develop. The opposition is also in favour of breast screening. It is going to happen.

The Action for Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) believes that breast screening should be part of primary health care, so it should be community-based.

Women taking part in a breast screening programme are not seeking treatment but early diagnosis. Prevention or early detection gives the best possible chance of a cure.

It is also important to remember that women play a vital role in society. Breast cancer kills. Where does that leave children and dependents?

If we have a quality assured programme for breast cancer screening and diagnosis, newly diagnosed women who have to go through this regulated system of care would have the best possible chance of survival.

The EU guidelines were distributed by ABCF over a year ago and it is hoped that this invaluable tool will be used to ensure the best outcome for all involved in delivering and receiving the necessary treatment.
