In an exercise aimed at giving her Mathematics Basic Skills class an opportunity to put theory into practice, Stephanie Asciak, a Maths teacher at St Ignatius College's Boys Secondary School, Tal-Ħandaq, Qormi, took her students for a shopping spree at Pavi supermarket, Qormi. The students were given a shopping list and a pre-determined budget and had to add and round up prices to estimate what they could afford, and had to calculate the change when presented with the actual bill at the check-out. The exercise also taught them how to choose products that offer good value for money. Ms Asciak as well as the students' English teacher Victoria Sammut, and leaning support assistant Michelle Tabone accompanied the students, while Pavi marketing manager John Grima gave them a tour of the supermarket.
