The Severe Weather Centre in Oklahoma is concerned as a powerful tornado moves up through the Midwest at the same time as a hurricane is coming across Lake Michigan. At Midwest Electric in Chicago, controller Mitch Benson is struggling to keep the power grid up during a heatwave. TV reporter Amy Harkin talks to Dan London, a programmer in the local power supplier Lexer Energy Corp, who voices concern over how Lexer's computer systems are unprotected, leaving them wide open for attack by hackers. And almost immediately after a hacker targets the grid, shutting down power across the city. As Mitch struggles to get the system back up, the two storm fronts converge on Chicago to combine into the most powerful and destructive storm in recorded history. In the midst of the devastation, Amy's pregnant sister is trapped in an elevator. At the same time Mitch's wife is imprisoned inside a bank by their daughter's boyfriend who has gone out of control, wielding a handgun, upset over her splitting up with him.


The Last of the Mohicans

British and French troops do battle in colonial America, with aid from various native American war parties. The British troops enlist the help of local colonial militia men, who are reluctant to leave their homes undefended. A budding romance between a British officer's daughter and an independent man who was reared as a Mohawk complicates things for the British officer, as the adopted Mohawk pursues his own agenda despite the wrath of different people on both sides of the conflict.


Elizabeth

When Catholic Queen Mary dies the succession goes to Elizabeth, the protestant half-sister Mary was not prepared to execute. The new queen finds herself surrounded by advisors, some supportive but some plotting to restore the Catholic line by almost any means. She is also under pressure to marry and produce an heir, but her lover Lord Robert Dudley is not considered suitable. Elizabeth realises she has some decisions to make, the most important being who rules England.


The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
Friday, RaiUno, 9.20 p.m.

Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are deported from London to the house of an eccentric professor during World War II. They find life in the house extremely dull, until Lucy discovers a wardrobe that leads to a magical world called Narnia, where animals can talk and all are ruled over by the wise and benevolent lion Aslan. The others don't believe her at first, but soon all of them go through the wardrobe and discover all is not well in Narnia. The land is being kept in a perpetual winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis, who turns anyone who doesn't obey her into stone. The children join Aslan and the animals loyal to him in an attempt to vanquish Jadis.
