Obituary
ATTARD. On August 27, MARY ROSE, née De Micoli, aged 69, peacefully went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church, after an illness borne with great Christian fortitude. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her devoted husband Charles, her children Gaby and Ole, Conrad and Geraldine, her beloved grandchildren Sara, Michelle and Rachel, her brothers and sister Silvio and Sheila, Victor and Hilda, Eileen, Ray and Angela, Astrid, widow of her brother Edward, Saviour, Charles, and her in-laws Pia and Victor Coppini, Marie-Louise and Paul Busuttil, Helen and Tony Cefai, Bernardette, widow of Osvaldo Giunta, and Joyce, widow of Joseph Attard, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 9 a.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, or to Dar tal-Kleru, Birkirkara, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.
MAGRI. On August 28, OLYMPIA, née Azzopardi, at St Vincent De Paul Residence, aged 95, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Mary, widow of Enrico Tento and Esther, wife of Peter Camilleri, her brother Anthony Azzopardi, her nephews and nieces, her grandchildren and two great granddaughters. The funeral will leave St Vincent De Paul Residence tomorrow at 8.15 a.m. and Mass will be said at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema at 8.45 a.m. followed by interment at Luqa cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza will be greatly appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest.
PACE BONELLO ARRIGO. ANNA, née Arrigo, passed away peacefully at home. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved daughter Patti Horzella, treasured granddaughters Zoë, Katia and Anouchka, Eric Pace Bonello, brother Edward Arrigo, sister-in-law Brigida Arrigo, brother-in-law Cecil Pace widower of her sister Marionne, Lina Zammit Cutajar, dear nephews, nieces, their families, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for St John of the Cross parish church, Ta' Xbiex where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery, entry through the top gate. No flowers by request but donations to the Dar Tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi will be greatly appreciated. May she rest in peace.
VELLA. On August 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, ROSARIA née Grima known as Lucy, widow of Carmelo, aged 76, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Edward and his wife Mary, Anton and his wife Rita, Joseph and his wife Licia, and Mary, widow of her brother Alfred Grima, her grandchildren Odette, Charlene, Christopher and his fiancée Coralie, Carl, Anna Marie and her husband Roderick Farrugia, Caroline and her husband Glenn Buttigieg, her great-grandchild Hailee, Zoya, Valentina, Viktor, her in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.45 p.m. for Mellieħa parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Mellieħa. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza will be greatly appreciated.

Upper Barrakka closed
The Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta will be closed to the public today from 4 p.m. when it will be under the control of EF Language Travel Ltd.
Charity ride
Members of the police corps will go on a charity ride tonight in aid of the Malta Hospice Movement.
Bikers will meet at the Police Garage in Floriana at 6.30 p.m. with the ride ending at Pjazza Narbona in Qormi, where the money collected will be presented to the Hospice movement.
Photography seminar
The Malta Institute of Professional Photography (MIPP) will hold its annual photography seminar in conjunction with SWPP-BPPA of London from October 31 to November 2.
International and local photographers will be lecturing during the seminar at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana.
The themes covered will include marketing, photo retouching, fashion, portraiture and weddings.
Although this event is meant mainly for MIPP members, non-members and other photography enthusiasts can participate.

Blockbuster re-runs
The Eden Cinemas will on Wednesday launch E3 Cinemas - a cinema within a cinema designed for those who may have missed blockbusters that were screened in the main cinemas.
Some of the films that were recently featured at the Eden Cinemas will be screened once more at one of the E3 Cinema's four screens for €3.
Visitors can buy tickets through www.edencinemas.com.mt.
The films are KRS releases.
Police association gets donation
The Malta Police Association yesterday received a donation of €2,500 from Dutch police union Algemene Nederlands Vereniging (ANPV) to buy computers for the association's offices.
The money was presented to administrative secretary Neville Mercieca by ANPV president Ron Tournier.
Carnival 2009
Next year, Carnival will be held between February 20 and 24, the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts (MCCA) said yesterday.
There will be competitions with prizes, including those for best float, costume and mask.
Applications are to be delivered to the MCCA at 230, Casa Gaspe, Republic Street, Valletta between Wednesday and September 9. Applications will be received until midday, accompanied by a deposit of €45. The deposit will be returned in the case of prize-winners.
There will be a call for an expression of interest for bands participating in the Carnival. No more than three bands will be selected and commissioned.
Roads closed
Il-Mina, Il-Kbira, Il-Kardinal and Desain streets together with Misraħ ir-Rebħa in Vittoriosa will be closed to traffic today from 5 p.m.
Story writing competition winners
Five women have been shortlisted as winners of the Flexi the Caterpillar story writing competition organised by Pampers. The competition was called Once Upon A Time Flexi The Caterpillar. The winners are Deborah Schembri Tabone, Valerie Scerri, Mariosa Camilleri, Ursula West, and Emily Farrugia.
The winners have each won one year's supply of Pampers Flex Baby Dry products. Ursula West, who does not have young children, will be donating the prize to the Millennium Chapel. The winning stories will be fine tuned by Trevor Zahra, and published and distributed with Pampers products.
Outing in aid of charity
