A Libyan national was yesterday given a five- month jail term suspended for two years after he admitted to stealing a handbag in Sliema.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard Khames Elamarini plead guilty to stealing the handbag and handling stolen property on August 13 at 7.30 p.m. and filing a false police report the day after.

Mr Elamarini told the court he had stolen the bag to sell its contents and gave false information to the police when he provided them with a false name and surname.

Police Inspector Carlo Ellul prosecuted.
