Labour MP Karl Chircop yesterday arrived at the London hospital where he will be given further treatment, The Times has learned.
The 43-year-old, who is in a coma after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage on August 3, was transported by ambulance to the Malta International Airport where he was transferred to an air ambulance that left Malta at about 1 p.m.
Accompanied by members of his family, he arrived at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), in London's Queen Square, in the late afternoon.
The NHNN is a leading centre for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions and head injuries.
Sources said the air ambulance had a similar set-up as an intensive therapy unit, which is where Dr Chircop has been receiving treatment for the past weeks. Dr Chircop is still on ventilation making it difficult for him to travel on a normal plane.
On Tuesday, the Health Division announced that the young MP will be flown to the UK for further treatment after showing "positive signs". Although he is still in a deep coma, this has been described as lighter than it was when he was admitted to hospital over three weeks ago.
