The government will be publishing a Legal Notice that extends the term of the present executive committee of the Local Councils Association by one year.

While carrying out consultations on the reform of local councils, the government took note of the fact that the elections for the committee were due to be held next October.

This coincided with the final phase of the reform process, a situation which will now be avoided through the new measure.

The Parliamentary Secretariat for Public Dialogue and Information held this out as an example of the way in which consultation meetings with a view to improving the workings of local councils were already bearing fruit.
