Four dance students have been awarded a week-long scholarship at the Turkish State Conservatoire and the Hungarian Dance Academy.
The students are Majbritt Kristensen, from the Dance Academy, and Francesca Cassar, from Johane Casabene Dance Conservatoire, who will be attending the Turkish State Conservatoire in November.
Janine Camilleri from the Central Academy of Ballet, and Leonora Chircop from Johane Casabene Dance Conservatoire will be attending the Hungarian Dance Academy in August.
Ballet teacher Mereille Coleiro will be accompanying them.
The scholarships were awarded to the students as a result of cultural exchanges undertaken by the Dance Council.
Last October, the Dance Council hosted ‘Dance Power 4: Embracing Dance’ at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta. Its guests for the event were the Turkish State Conservatoire, the Royal Danish Ballet and the Hungarian Dance Academy.
Turkish ballet mistress Evelyn Tuscav and Hungarian ballet mistress Katalin Miklosne Borsa chose the local candidates following a series of workshops held after the performances.
The Dance Council organises various activities for its members throughout the year. Its monthly dance workshops are open to children aged eight and over who would like to experience a dance lesson.
The last workshop for this season will be a Zumba class at the Central Academy, Birkirkara, to be held on June 18. All members, parents and friends are invited.
