Three teenage players from Loyola Basketball Club are currently in Italy for an eight-day pre-season training camp with the U-18 Lottomatica team which is based in Rome.
Gianluca Cuschieri, Nigel Sultana and Stefan Vella made the trip but Shawn Pace, also selected for the training camp, was unavailable due to academical studies.
The training camp was made possible following the Loyola boys' presence in another specialized training camp last July, also in Italy. It was conducted by coach Paolo Difonzo who is also a member in the Lottomatica technical staff.
This opportunity will open the door for other players who want to improve their skills in basketball. Such initiatives will surely help raise the standard of the game in Malta at grassroots level, Loyola said.
