Unsettled Juventus midfielder could be heading away from the Serie A this week if his club reaches agreement with Atletico Madrid over a transfer move.

The Portuguese midfielder snubbed a switch to Porto earlier this week and also rejected transfers to Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle. Juventus remain determined to part with Tiago, who has never settled since arriving from Lyon last summer.

With first-team football at Juventus unlikely, Tiago is still expected to find a new club and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the latest favourites to lure the 27-year-old are La Liga's Atletico Madrid.

Agent Jorge Mendes is trying hard to persuade Tiago to accept one of the proposals on the table before September 1.

Kaka assures Milan

Kaka rejected speculation about a possible move to Chelsea in England and has pledged his future to Milan. The Brazil playmaker has been linked with an £80 million move to Stamford Bridge, with reports suggesting Chelsea have an option to buy him as part of the deal which saw Andriy Shevchenko return to the San Siro.

Kaka, however, said he is focused on helping Milan do a league and UEFA Cup double this season.

"Me going to Chelsea? I'm staying as a Rossoneri player," Kaka said.

"I should help Milan to win the trophies we're up for this season. The club have made some great signings. My goal is to win, Milan's is too. As long as we are like that, I'll remain at Milan."

Ferdinand... Keane's ninth signing

West Ham's England U-21 defender Anton Ferdinand joined Sunderland on a four-year deal as manager Roy Keane's ninth signing of the summer. No financial details were given, although newspapers put a price tag of £8 million on the 23-year-old.

"We needed to strengthen our defence and Anton is a great signing," Keane said.

"He's still young but he has over 160 games under his belt so he has experience, he's learning his trade."

Ferdinand, brother of Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand and cousin of former England international forward Les, had been at West Ham since he was a schoolboy.

"It was hard leaving West Ham because I've been there for 16 years but after meeting Roy Keane I knew it was time for a change," he said.

No bid for Villa - Valencia

Valencia vice-president Fernando Gomez said his club have yet to receive a formal offer for striker David Villa, adding he could be tempted to enter negotiations should a €50-million bid is offered.

Spanish media reports suggested Valencia had turned down an offer of around €47 million from Real Madrid for Spain international Villa.

"There is no offer for Villa and if one arrives we hope it will be as soon as possible, (although) we hope one never comes," he said.

"It would be difficult to see Villa go but if someone offers 50 million euros than we'll have to consider it."

Paloschi joins Parma

Milan have let striker Alberto Paloschi join second division Parma but they will remain joint owners of the player, the Serie A club said yesterday.

Parma were relegated last season after a 19-year spell in the top flight but they are strong favourites to bounce straight back. Gigi Cagni's side have kept hold of Italy striker Cristiano Lucarelli and have now added the upcoming Paloschi to their ranks.

Paloschi, an Italy U-19 international, was unexpectedly thrust into the spotlight last term when an injury crisis at San Siro handed him his first senior starts.

Paloschi found the net just minutes into his debut against Siena, but his chances of playing first-team football this term were slim with the additions of Andriy Shevchenko, Ronaldinho and Marco Borriello.

This summer Paloschi was also linked with Torino, Reggina and Genoa.

Fowler turns down Rovers' offer

Veteran striker Robbie Fowler has rejected a 'pay-as-you-play' offer from Blackburn Rovers as he is looking for a permanent contract. The 33-year-old has been training with Rovers this summer following his release by Cardiff.

Paul Ince, a former team-mate of Fowler at Liverpool, is now in charge at Blackburn and had hoped to utilise the forward this season. However, Fowler is holding out for a longer contract.

"The situation with Robbie is still up in the air," said Ince. "These things do take time, especially when the agent gets involved.

"I'm not unsure about Robbie, I'm just unsure as to when it will get done.

"There is no deadline, though, because he is a free agent and not tied down to the transfer window."

Menez on his way to Roma

French forward Jeremy Menez seems set to complete a move to Roma in the coming days, Monaco coach Ricardo said.

Roma have been chasing the signature of the 21-year-old for some time now and Ricardo admitted that an agreement between the two clubs was set to be reached for a fee of 15 million euros.

"There is a strong probability that the transfer will sort itself out before the end of the week," the Brazilian was quoted as saying in L'Equipe.
