Obituary

ATTARD. On August 27, MARY ROSE, née De Micoli, aged 69, peacefully went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church, after an illness borne with great Christian fortitude. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her devoted husband Charles, her children Gaby and Ole, Conrad and Geraldine, her beloved grandchildren Sara, Michelle and Rachel, her brothers and sister Silvio and Sheila, Victor and Hilda, Eileen, Ray and Angela, Astrid, widow of her brother Edward, Saviour, Charles, and her in-laws Pia and Victor Coppini, Marie-Louise and Paul Busuttil, Helen and Tony Cefai, Bernardette, widow of Osvaldo Giunta, and Joyce, widow of Joseph Attard, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 9 a.m. for Sacro Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, or to Dar tal-Kleru, Birkirkara, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

MACKAY. On August 26, at Mater Dei Hospital, JESMOND, aged 45, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Doris, née Cutajar, his children Jessica and her fiancé James Eddleston, Ambrose and his fiancée Erica Said and their children Damian and Jasmine, his father Benny Mackay, his in-laws, relatives and numerous friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 7.30 a.m. for St Dominic parish church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

PACE BONELLO ARRIGO - ANNA, née Arrigo, passed away peacefully at home. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her beloved daughter Patti Horzella, her treasured granddaughters Zoë, Katia and Anochka, Eric Pace Bonello, her brother Edward Arrigo, her sister-in-law Brigida Arrigo, her brother-in-law Cecil Pace, widower of her sister Marionne, Lina Zammit Cutajar, her dear nephews, nieces and friends. May she rest in peace. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

SAVONA. On August 26, at Mater Dei Hospital, FRANCES, née Rapinett of Valletta, aged 84, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Tony, her children Godwin and his wife Carmen, Gertie and her husband Edwin Cassar, her youngest daughter Mary-Rose and Tony, her brother Pawlinu, her sisters Lucy Seychell and Polly Pisani, their respective wives and husbands, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Augustine parish church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. VELLA. On August 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, ROZARIA née Grima known as Lucy, widow of Carmelo, aged 76, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Edward and his wife Mary, Anton and his wife Rita, Joseph and his wife Lucy, and Mary, widow of her brother Alfred Grima, her nieces Odette, Charlene, Christopher and his girlfriend Coralie, Carl, Anna Marie and her husband Rodric Farrugia, Caroline and her husband Glenn Buttigieg, her grandchild Hailee, Zoya, Valentina, Viktor, her in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 2.45 p.m. for Mellieħa parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Mellieħa. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, will be greatly appreciated.

Requiem Masses

A Mass for the repose of the soul of IRENE ATTARD BONDI will be said today at 7.30 p.m. at the Salesian Oratory (opposite St Patrick's church), Sliema, being the trigesima die of her demise. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.

A Mass for the repose of DION CARDONA will be celebrated tomorrow at 6.30 p.m. at Attard parish church. The attendance of relatives and friends will be appreciated.

Cartoons competition

The European Commission's Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities is organising a cartoons competition in Malta as part of its pan-European campaign called For Diversity Against Discrimination.

Participating cartoons should highlight in a positive manner one or more of the following aspects: race and/or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, age, religion, and disability.

Entries are to be handed in at BPC International Limited, 50, J. Gasan Street, Pieta by October 1, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Entrants may submit a maximum of five artworks in colour or monochrome, out of which a selection panel will select the exhibits that will be presented to the public in autumn 2008.

The selection panel will also assign two prizes consisting of a €700 cheque for the winner and a €300 cheque for the second placed.

Rules and regulations for participation in this competition and exhibition may be obtained from BPC International (Attn: Mr Carmel Bonello via email: carmel.bonello@bpc.com.mt or on 2124 3212), who are organising this competition and exhibition on behalf of the European Commission.

Puccini Concert

An operatic concert is being organised by the Mellieħa local council for the 150th anniversary since the birth of the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924).

The concert will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. in the churchyard of the Sanctuary of Our Lady in Mellieħa. The programme will feature soprano singer Adriana Fenech Jordanova and tenor Joseph Aquilina, who will be accompanied by pianist Maria Frendo together with composer Clifford Borg.

The bill will feature arias from Madama Butterfly, Turandot, La Boheme, Tosca, Manon Lescaut and Gianni Schicchi.

Kitten needs home

A tiny kitten was found in a crack in a wall at the side of a main road, looking over its lifeless mother which had been run over and left in the middle of the road.
