Mepa urged to investigate road near fireworks factory

The Labour Party's spokesman on Mepa yesterday called on the authority to investigate the building of a private road within the buffer zone of the Lija fireworks factory.

Roderick Galdes queried how the development was being allowed when it went against the local plan for the central part of Malta.

He said the building of this road was not justified since the local plan, in 2006, had even excluded a planned road in the same area because of the danger posed by the short distance from the fireworks factory.

Mr Galdes said Mepa should consult the residents, local councils and the fireworks enthusiasts about the proposed development.
