A Libyan national was today given a five month jail term suspended for two years after he admitted to stealing a handbag in Sliema.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke heard Khames Elamarini plead guilty to stealing the handbag, handling stolen property and filing a false police report on 13 August at 7.30p.m.

Mr Elamarini told the court that he had stolen the bag to sell its contents. He admitted he had given the police a false name and surname.

He was subsequently given a five month jail term suspended for two years.

Police Inspector Carlo Ellul prosecuted.
