Karl Chircop ferried to UK for treatment

An air ambulance equipped like a hospital intensive care unit was in Malta early this afternoon to ferry Labour MP Karl Chircop to the UK for medical treatment.

Dr Chircop has been in a coma since August 3 when he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage. His condition is reported to have improved.

Dr Chircop is being accompanied on the flight by his wife Adriana.

whoever wrote such a thing must really not know what family chircop is going through at the moment. i'd like to see his own reaction had something like that been written about one of his loved ones. shame on you!

jan, have faith, as people like him are heavily outnumbered by us that have karl in our thoughts all throughout the day. and yes, we shall keep praying for him and for your family.

The problem as I see from abroad is that many Maltese are overly aligned to a political Party. Quite possibly because the island is too small. In my opinion folks should wake up and not be married to a political party for life. For examle here in America there is a famous Democratic media commentator named George Carville who is married to a Republican high profile TV commentator named Mary Matilin. I doubt that could happen in Malta right now. As far as Dr Kirkop goes he is a human being first. So of course everyone should be wishing him a speedy recovery no matter where his pilitical affiliations are.

Its not about some being more equal than others, its about some 'readers' being less human than others. I'm just glad that the majority here are for.' the saving of karl's life.

When a few days back we were at Lourdes with Euro Tours we all prayed before the shrine
of our Lady for Dr.Karl as the news came over the mobile of you being in the intensive unit.

Everyone has shown solidarity, including those who are asking questions. But they should realise that family members are reading this so be a little more sensitive and reserve those questions (however pertinent you might feel that they are) for some other forum.

Dr. Karl Chircop,

We'll continue to pray for you to get better... We are 100% sure that you were receiving good treatment at Mater Dei and hope that you'll continue to receive more in UK..

We really wish you a speedy recovery, and may GOD and the Virgin Mary help you through this very difficult moment to return back with your family and friends..

Wish you the very best of luck,

Karl, I join all the others in my prayers. I will never forget the times when you were friends with my father who had high regards for you. My prayers also to your wife Adriana and children, your mother Marion, family and close friends. May God be with all of you all.

I am tremendously disappointed and hurt by what some commenters chose to write here. I know it is their right. But come on guys where is your conscience? Now is not the time to think this way, let alone write about it. There will be plenty of time for that when this tragedy blows over. Do you have an idea what more grief you are causing our family? Are we not going through enough. It is not that tragedies like ours don’t hit other families all the time. But is it Karl’s fault that his ill fate became news? You know about our tragedy because Karl is what the people chose to make him. It was the people who gave him their trust and this after he chose to use all his strength and abilities to serve them. And served them well he did, from his heart, whatever their colour or creed.
My sincere appreciation for the love, prayers and support given by so many people. Thank you for wishing Karl’s health back.
We Love you Karl. You are always in our minds and in our hearts. You are surely not walking alone.

Good luck to Dr Chircop. Let's just hope that the next patient who is a nobody will be able to get the same treatment!

Both my family and I know Dr. Chircop. He was my parents' doctor and a very good one at that. I personally now his wife Adriana as we used to work in the same communication company for some time. I was and still am shocked to hear what happened. Together with my sons Silvan and Conrad I wish Dr. Chircop a speedy recovery and may God bring him back as soon as possible to resume with his normal life. To his wife Adriana and all his family I would like to tell them that I shall always remember them in my prayers.
Charles Micallef (on 29/8/08)
Jan Chircop, I read your contribution, we know that it must hurt for you or your family to read this dribble, please do not take what some say to heart, be assured that the majority of the population are praying for Dad's full recovery, and cannot wait to see the day when we see him walking down the return journey aircraft steps unaided..I am sure that Dad's advice at the moment will be to pray that none of the people who write these negative comments will ever go through your experience, as only then, they can find out how much these unwarranted comments hurts.

Please try and rise above all this and concentrate on looking after the ones left around you

Anthony Agius (on 29/8/08)
Jan,your father is my family doctor and we have great respect for him.
I just want to give you one advise. Just ignore the few silly people who are writing these stupid comments. I can understand your reaction cause you and your family don't need this at the monent. But rest assured that the majority of the maltese people are behind you and your family with their prayers and their support.
So KURAGG, and let's keep on praying to see your dad back with us.
Jan Chircop (on 29/8/08)
Then i guess you're right, we should deny my father the last fighting chance of pulling through, deny him the same treatment other Maltese get when they can't be treated locally... after all he didn't contribute as much as you to this country. What were they thinking sending him there, we should have kept him here where we've got no required equipment, no trained staff and no surgical expertise for him to be cured. I'll call up the neurosurgeons in England and extend your expert opinion and have him flown back within the day... Thank God people like you exist to enlightening us.

On more important note, I would like to thank everyone who prayed, everyone who called, sent cards or showed support and sympathy of any kind over the past few days. They helped not only us pull through, but also my dad, we really appreciate! Staff at Mater Dei did a great job too... big thanks! Please keep praying for him!

@ Michael Camilleri; @ J. Tonna; @ Joe Norwex; Let us sincerely LOVE our neighbour and show more respect to Dr Karl Chircop. After all we are ALL human beings on this planet Earth. Let us all unite in our prayers. Solidarity with the families involved. The following sentence has nothing to do with the article. It's about blood donation. "GIVE, SO THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE."
Kevin Zammit (on 28/8/08)
With all due respect for Dr. Kirkop and his family and hoping he will get well soon, I want to know that this service is available to us all and under what criteria.

Is that too much to ask? Quite honestly I do not care for myself much aymore. Happy to meet the
Lord any time He decides, maybe in this day and age we forget that after all there is but one destination for us all. My children though, should they not get a chance if one is available to get to my age? What happens to them if I'm not around? Why am I often asked to donate money for a child of another fellow Maltese?

We should get answers to these questions.

Michael Camilleri (on 28/8/08)
Yes we are all equal ..... a few a bit more ...
Franco Farrugia (on 28/8/08)
@ Mr J Tonna - I hope that you are being sarcastic there. Otherwise, a very pathetic comment!
Charles Micallef (on 28/8/08)
I cannot understand how can anyone come out with some of the comments (dribble) as noted below, if for nothing else, for the fact that these comments will definetely be read and upset member's of Karl's family. At this stage all they require our prayers and solidarity and not sneidy and clever remarks...

Please PRAY with us that Karl will fully recover, he has a young family to bring up.

Paul A Attard (on 28/8/08)
Save journey to the UK, and quick return home to family, friends and the rest of us.
M Grech (on 28/8/08)
Gerard Cassar has appointed himself neurosurgeon, neurologist and conspiracy theorist in one go! "Could be" is just not good enough Mr Cassar, unless you're dead certain of what you write, better keep your mouth shut. Do you have any faint idea of the cost of an air ambulance? Have you suddenly become qualified to decide when a patient is fit to travel, air ambulance or not, keeping in mind the extreme dangers in such a flight with such a patient.
Good luck Karl.
Anthony Agius (on 28/8/08)
Let us all unite and keep on praying for this gentleman / great doctor / great politician and above all, a great father cause that's what he needs most at the moment, and not silly comments of the way he is being threated. Karl, you're in our thoughts and prayers, and may God be with you and your family in this delicate momemt.
Clayton Luke Mula (on 28/8/08)
Now it's the most important step for Dr. Karl Chircop, after we have heared that Dr. Chircop's condition is improving.

Let's keep on praying for Dr. Chircop so he will be again serving our country.

Prayers aswell for his family.

God Bless You All.
Gerard Cassar (on 28/8/08)
Could be the family or friends are paying, because the goverrnment couldn't care once normal treatment is probably available, other wise why wait all these weeks before sending a patient to receive a better treatment.
Let's hope it is worth the expenses. At least that is the family motive. Nothing is prohibitive when there is still hope.
All our thoughts are with the good doctor
Tony Pace (on 28/8/08)
Our prayers and best wishes to Karl. Karl You'll never walk alone.
Jonathan Cassar (on 28/8/08)
@ Joe Norwex

In some instances people deemed more "important" actually get WORSE treatment, as they tend to get over-treated. Case-in-point is Ariel Sharon, he suffered a series of TIAs (small strokes), and instead of treating him the way one would normally treat an 80-yr old obese, hypertensive he got treated as if he was a healthy 40-yr old. The result....he had a massive bleed. If he had been treated appropriately, he would be probably be better off!

If there is hope for recovery, dozens of patients the age of Dr Chircop get ferried over to the UK for treatment every year.
J. Tonna (on 28/8/08)
First of all I wish Karl a speedy recovery and may we see him in Parliament soon.

I do not understand why some count themselves on the same level with Members of Parliament or other such authorities. We are all equal, yes, but some are more important.
Andrew Borg-Cardona (on 28/8/08)
Joe Norwex, or whatever your real name is, didn't you see the report about another patient having been ferried earlier in similar circumstances? I'm no-one in authority but your comment strikes me as cheap, as was that of Mary Pace.

Let's not deviate from communal solidarity with Dr Chircop and his family, though.
E Zammit (on 28/8/08)
I wonder how certain people can spk in such a way
in times like this.

Get well karl, we need you back with us safe n sound !!
mary Pace (on 28/8/08)
Don't count on it
r joe Norwex!!!!
Maria Dolores Fenech (on 28/8/08)
Good Luck Dr Chircop. God be with you and your family.
Joe Norwex (on 28/8/08)
My comment might sound nasty but I need to voice my worries and opinion.

First and foremost I wish Dr. Chircop a fast recovery.

Now my worst worry - Is this kind of treatment available to all Maltese patients? Will I if ever suffer something similar be sent under the same conditions for overseas treatment or is kind of treatment reserved for certian members of our population?

I do not wish any replies from the public but from somebody in authority.

Again these comments are nothing against Dr. Chircop who I happen to be a patient of but a general question.
SIMON AMATO (on 28/8/08)
LETS STILL HOPE AND BELEIVE IN MIRACLES...GOD AND VIRGIN MARY ARE ALWAYS THERE WITH YOU DR KARL. UR ALWAYS REMEMBERED IN OUR PRAYERS. FAMILY AMATO.PAOLA
