Band clubs last year spent more on the remuneration of bandsmen and less on training programmes, administration and the purchase of instruments than in 2006, figures issued today show.
According to the National Statistics Office, the clubs spent €1,042,147 on the remuneration of bandsmen last year, from €1,033,768 the year before.That constituted 40 percent of their total outlay.
Donations made up 31.2 per cent of the total income.
During 2007 there were 92 band clubs in Malta with a total of 3,994 bandsmen, a slight increase over 2006 but still 4.2 per cent lower than in 2005.
Band club membership stood at 25,357 last year, an increase of 4.7 per cent over 2005.
The percentage of resident female bandsmen amounted to 25.3 per cent last year, an increase of nearly one per cent over the previous year.
