Mintoff's prize money
I strongly urge Dom Mintoff to donate the money from the human rights award to a charity institution here in Malta. Another option is to donate the money to the young immigrants who fled their country in search of a decent new life, with the start of their long journey originating from, none other, than Muammar al-Gaddafi's Libya.

At 90 + and still controversial!
This fact alone makes Mintoff a leader.
With all critics to Mintoff, we should always remember that, almost out of nothing, Mintoff manage to build Malta. Obviously, young peoples don’t recall this. While the Media in Malta is systematically demonizing both Mintoff’s era and Libya.
Only to those who read history correctly, aren’t both leaders holding the right views regarding the thuggers (USA governments) of the other side of the Atlantic? Hasn’t history proving them right?
We should never let our disliking or disagreement with both leaders ignores facts on the ground.
Had any of our leaders received a prize from our European fellows? I don’t recall!
Weren’t Fenech Adami Licking Gadaffi’s shoes few weeks ago?

Many comments are just obsessed about illegal immigrants. They would use the immigrant as a scapegoat to hang all our evils on them, and when we see EU is not helping MALTA we find it easier to blame Libya.
EU gives Malta adequate money for the illegal immigrants.

@ Joyce Aquilina
Do you know that this was an award for human rights? Are you sure he really deserved it?
I think that deep down he knows that he doesn't deserve it and he will consider donating it after all. It's up to him but if would be nice of him to do it.

With all due respect, but who are we to suggest how someone should spend HIS/HER money, whether won, earned or inherited?
And one more thing, even if Mintoff did donate the money, I see no reason why he should go public about. Donations should not be made public as that is simply trying to get publicity over what should be a noble gesture driven not by the desire of being acknowledged, but by compassion and tolerance for others. For all we know, he might have had already done so without all the fanfare some seem to expect out of it. Just leave him be, and think about what kind of charity you can do. No need to donate $250,000 to help out. If you're so concerned about charity, just act on it, do not 'strongly urge' another one to do so in your stead.

Dear Stephen Rizzo thank you for all those donations you have made regularly to the needy. can you give us an account of your donations so that we all can do likewise.

What pettiness! Are people still thinking about this issue?
Leave the old man alone with his money!
And anyway, with what right do you write suggesting what he should do with his money?

What an excellent idea, if it wasnt for the fact that it would be easier to get blood out of the proverbial stone!
