It is a disappointing fact that the Birżebbuġa church square has been damaged during feast activities in honour of St Peter. Unfortunately, the sense of accountability for one's actions is sorely missing.
Following an embellishment project that was done for the common good of this locality, it's a crying shame that reckless damage should go on unnoticed. Whatever the reason, the use of heavy machines on the church square should be restricted and the culprit should pay for any damage done.
To say that the use of such machines is necessary for feast decorations or for ground fireworks to be set up is not legitimate.
Consequently, the relevant authorities are to ensure that damage done to the church square paving and steps is to be immediately accounted for.
