A man has been arrested in Blackburn on suspicion of terrorism offences, Lancashire Police said yesterday.

The 25-year-old, who has not been named, was arrested early yesterday morning and specialist officers are now searching an address in Blackburn.

The arrest is part of a joint investigation between the Lancashire force and the Greater Manchester Counter-Terrorism Unit which earlier this month arrested three men, two of whom were from Blackburn. All three remain in custody.

"We will endeavour to carry out any searches as quickly as possible to minimise impact on the area concerned," said Lancashire Chief Superintendent Andy Rhodes.

"However, inquiries of this nature are complex and may take time to resolve. I would like to thank local residents affected by the arrests for their cooperation and ask that they remain patient."
