Bank offers Chip and PIN cards
HSBC are now in a position to issue Visa Classic and Visa Gold Chip and PIN cards. Chip and PIN cards offer improved security features when compared to existing cards. This is because at point of sale, customers will now be required to enter their unique PIN (Personal Identification Number) to authorise any transactions.
The procedure will replace the current practice of customers having to sign a receipt.
"Following final tests and certification we are now in a position to issue our customers with Chip and Pin enabled Visa Classic and Visa Gold cards," Sally Robson, HSBC Malta Chief Operating Officer said.

Sir/Madam.
Well let's all now do the dance of joy! This technology has been in place for a great many number of years and has proven to be extremely effective in reducing fraudulent and unauthorised utilisation of bank cards, which is undoubtedly of mutual benefit to client and bank.I brought this to HSBC's and the BOV's attention back in 2003 -after being in possession of this facility for a number of years(ironically from HSBC-UK)and have replies from both these banks that the introduction in Malta of this "CHIP and PIN" next generation card was "imminent"(from HSBC) and "to be introduced very soon"(from BOV).Therefore this begs the questions why did it take so long to introduce ,given the indisputable advantages, and why the big brouhaha about this inexplicable tardy implementation-which should come with an apology?
Apparently the words soon , imminent and customer service take on a different connotative significance with our banks.
Yours faithfully
