Traffic through Lija
It has always been very difficult for any individual or organisation to convince the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to reverse a decision over a permit issued according to the Local Plan.
However, Lija council fought hard and argued sensibly for Transfiguration Avenue to be protected against a certain development.
Naturally, a number of residents backed the council and this pressure also bore fruit.
There is, however, one major project the council has tried to solve unsuccessfully: the situation regarding traffic from outside the village that uses our narrow roads to access the Birkirkara bypass.
The council must take the bull by the horns, and after consulting experts, map out a permanent traffic plan. The number of heavy vehicles going through the village must also be limited.

True. By virtue of its nature Lija's roads are beautiful but narrow. They are not designed to carry traffic trying to bypass busier roads either to go to B'Kara or the other way round from B'Kara up to Attard and Rabat. The difference felt when some roads were closed during the feast was truly amazing. No revving as cars speed down the road once they clear a road hump. No horns as impatient drivers couldn't afford a 5 second wait whilst vehicles stop to drop off passengers in a road where parking is not easy.
