The generous support of the Maltese for the missions has been of benefit to many in Third World countries. It does us proud as a nation, and is a fitting tribute to our father in the Faith, St Paul.
I can testify to this in my 25 years of lay missionary work in Santal Parganas, India. I train local women to run dispensaries in the interior areas where qualified medical personnel are unavailable. I also train and supervise village health workers in the diagnosis and treatment of common illnesses like malaria, TB and epilepsy. Another demanding activity is the community rehabilitation of children with various disabilities.
On my current visit to Malta, I have come to know several members of the Mission Fund and have been impressed and edified by their dedication and commitment, both in collecting funds as well as in their annual building projects.
I publicly thank the Mission Fund for their donation. Thanks are also due to the many friends who give donations and collect telecards and stamps to help raise funds.
May the Lord bless them all for their generosity.
