Former Valletta striker Sebastian Monesterolo is set to join a club in Israel following the unexpected collapse of his move to AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.

Sources have told The Times that Monesterolo, top scorer of the Premier League last season with 19 goals, left Cyprus earlier this week on his way to Israel after Hapoel Lod expressed a firm interest in signing him.

Monesterolo scored a number of goals for AEK Larnaca in pre-season friendlies but this did not stop the Cypriot club from parting company with the Argentine after learning that his application for an Italian passport had been rejected.

Sliema Wanderers are believed to have sounded out Monesterolo about joining them but the 25-year-old striker has reportedly been offered a better deal by Hapoel, who play in the second tier of the Israeli game.
