Georgia urged to lift censorship

The Institute of Maltese Journalists has associated itself with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in its call on Georgia to lift the official censorship of the Russian-language media.

The federation also appealed to all sides in the South Ossetia conflict to open the doors to free reporting in the region.

The world needs to know what is happening and appealed to both Russian and Georgian authorities to allow the media to operate and work freely.

The federation said it was also worried that much of the Russian media coverage, in particular the main TV networks, are under the political guidance of the Kremlin.

The Maltese institute is affiliated in the IFJ.
