UN refugee chief reaches South Ossetia

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres arrived in the war-torn capital of South Ossetia, the UN refugee agency said.

"I can confirm the High Commissioner and a convoy arrived in Tskhinvali," spokesman Andrej Mahecic told Reuters in Geneva.

Previously, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was the only international humanitarian agency to have access to Tskhinvali, where tens of thousands of civilians are in need of relief supplies.
