Progress in union talks with St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation

"Considerable progress" was made at a conciliation meeting held between the Professionals and Services Employees Union (PSEU) and St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation yesterday, the union said.

The meeting was called by the Director of Industrial and Employment Relations following a strike on Monday ordered by the PSEU.

The union had been calling for talks on a range of issues affecting workers' conditions. s

The union suspended its actions when the conciliation meeting was called.

The two sides yesterday agreed on several points including the revision of the employment contract of the head, security custodians, an increase in the number of part-time custodians during the peak season, and that negotiations for the collective agreement of part-time custodians would start next week.

The union said it would be taking the case of the recent dismissal of a custodian to the industrial tribunal.
