Regional Road tunnels to close for a night

There will be a traffic diversion from the Regional Road tunnels (Triq Mikiel Anton Vassalli) as the tunnels will be closed for a night in view of maintenance works on street lighting, Enemalta Corporation said.

Enemalta said it will be undertaking works at night to minimise inconvenience to the public, starting on August 28 at 9 p.m. and carrying on until 5 a.m. on August 29.

Traffic coming from Msida towards St Julians will be diverted through Triq B'Kara towards Ta' Ġiorni while traffic from St Julians in the direction of Msida will be diverted to Triq Mikiel Anġ Borg towards Sliema. The police will be in the area to help motorists.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution and to cooperate with police and traffic wardens on site.

The corporation's customer care offices may be reached on freephone 8007 2224.

I love this country so much and I am proud to be Maltese.

But really, the week of the St Julians feast?? After a couple of years with the road closed, when all the maintenance could have been done??

Why is it always like this here? Lack of coordination and COMMON SENSE!!

I had written a letter on The Times regarding this issue. They should have changed the bulbs when the tunnels where half closed and not only that, the tunnels need urgent repairs and cleaning, they look like third world tunnels. When it rains, water comes down from the roof. The tunnel leading to msida needs a new surface of tarmac as well cos it's full of pot holes.

If I am not mistaken the feast of St. Julian's will almost be in full swing during these repairs.

Why not perform the maintenance one at a time?

I suppose this is what is meant when one's doctor put yuo on LIGHT DUTIES!!!

Now we have it as official - 8 hours to change a light bulb.
I suppose it was too much to ask that they could have done this maintenance during the periods that the road was closed due to bridge works or even half a tunnel at a time during the months and months that half of the tunnel was not being used - mmmm that would have meant co-ordination.
