A post mortem examination on Carmela Camilleri, a 50-year-old widow from Birkirkara found dead in the sea off Dingli Cliffs on Tuesday, was "inconclusive", the police said yesterday.

Further tests need to be carried out.

At this stage of their investigations, the police do not believe foul play was involved, sources said. Police sources said that the woman had injuries on her head and other parts of her body which are compatible with injuries that can be sustained from the propeller of a boat. These injuries may also have been the cause of death.

The corpse was recovered from the sea by an AFM patrol boat early on Tuesday morning after having been spotted by a fisherman some metres away from shore.
