Johnny Fenech has been appointed Master Group's new wine advisor. Mr Fenech will be responsible for communicating and promoting all Camilleri Wines' brands of locally produced wines and all Master Group's portfolio of imported wines internally and externally. He will be involved in the selection of imported wines sold from Master Cellars and highly involved in the implementation of new projects by Camilleri Wines.

"Johnny brings to the company a wealth of experience in the catering and beverage industry and we are very glad to welcome him on board," said Claudio Camilleri, head of sales and marketing at Master Group. "He shares in our enthusiasm to work and handle our products with passion and we look forward to making of this a learning experience for both parts."

Mr Fenech attended the food and beverage service and management course at the Institute of Tourism Studies, during which time he enjoyed a working placement at the Hilton Malta for 18 months. Following this experience, he pursued his school internship in Scotland, working for a whole year at the famous Gleneagles Hotel. During that time he also worked for five months as a sommelier and attended two wines and spirits education trust courses. Back in Malta, he was employed for two and half years at the then renowned Mange Tout restaurant in Xemxija as head-waiter and sommelier.

Following Mange Tout, Mr Fenech went to work abroad specifically pursuing the career of a sommelier by dealing and serving wines at Auberge du Lac restaurant which is part of Broket Hall. The famous French chef Jean Christoph Novelli was in charge of the restaurant and the Italian Sommelier Luca Ravagnati was responsible for the 650-bin wine list.

Back in Malta, Mr Fenech started working at the Radisson Golden Sands Resort and Spa as head waiter and sommelier. After six months he was promoted to restaurant manager for Essence Restaurant.

"I am very enthusiastic to work with Master Group as I recognise this as a great step in my career," said Mr Fenech. "Wine has always been my biggest passion but to date I have always worked in restaurants and hotels suggesting, choosing and serving wines for my guests. Now I will be working on the other side of the fence where I will be choosing and presenting our wines to restaurants, hotels and the client in general."
