Workplace accidents increase by 7.4%
Workplace accidents rose by 7.4 percent in the second quarter of this year to reach 1,182, but there were no fatalities, the NSO said today.
It said that applications for injury benefit showed that 1,182 persons were injured at work between April and June, an increase of 81 over the same period last year.
The biggest number of accidents, 32.9 percent, occurred in the manufacturing sector, followed by 15.4 percent in construction and 11.7 percent in the transport, storage, and communications sector.
Just over half of the accidents involved people in elementary occupations. 44.5 per cent of the accidents at work occurred to persons who were under 35 years old.
During the same period last year, there were three fatalities at work.

Those who have a vested interest will say that accidents do happen. That is why those responsible must leave no stone unturned to prevent accidents from happening.
OHSA should be hands on to monitor, advice and train personnel how to work and remain safe at the place of work and bring to the book those who through their negligence are responsible to most of these accidents. Could we have some feed back from the NSO about this situation?
By the way is it true that the unions will be calling for action soon about this matter!?
