Malta among top 10 island destinations in the Med.
Malta has been placed 10th in a list of the top islands in the Mediterranean compiled by travel website TripAdvisor.
"Our travellers have identified the hot islands in the Mediterranean this summer, especially if you want sun, sea and dancing all night," the website says.
The list was compiled according to "traveller popularity and editors", Reuters said.
Commenting about Malta, TripAdvisor said: "Steeped in culture and history, Malta also features beautiful beaches and secluded coves, making the island feel like paradise.
"Stroll along Dingli Cliffs, watching the sunset at the highest area in Malta or visit the impressive Hypogeum temple featuring the sleeping Venus of Malta at the entrance."
Heading the list is Cyprus with Aphrodite's birthplace as the centre of attraction for tourists in the eastern Mediterranean.
Greece had the highest number of islands in the list, including Corfu, Crete, Santorini, and Mykonos. These were followed by Ibiza, Sicily, Majorca and Capri.
"All of these islands offer pristine beaches and their own unique features," said TripAdvisor's Michele Perry.

thanks for the compliment but anyone with a normal IQ and non racial point of view can see whatb is going on....wardens sticking tickets for ludicrous crimes while our island is being used as a toilet but blond western hooligans who wouldn't dream of beahaving this way in thei home town. Furthertmore where is MTA when it comes down to over charging, litter and abuse by restaurant bar owners? They say the market economy fixes prices but not when 4 or 5 people own all the main entertainment outlets on the island!!!! How come a big mac costs more in malta than it does in most metropolitan cities all over the globe considering our yougsters are pais 1.50 lira an hor , considering that the rent for outlets in malta are lower than most cities. It is time for a shake up and some price control if we want the tourist industry to trive. It seems th old thinking of 'make the buck of the day and forget tomorrowm is the order of the day for most businessmen in malta. Thjey are killing the industry and they dont give a hoot.

It does not surprise me in the least that malta only came 10th in this recent poll. I am half maltese and have travelled around most of the islands mentioned. My most recent visit to malta was last summer and to be honest i was counting down the days to come home. The island is extremely expensive in comparison to other islands. Litter was everywhere, but the most upsetting aspect was the obvious rascist views of the bus drivers. I am not talking about one incident but several. I shall only be visiting the island in future to visit my elderly relatives. This Summer was spent in Rhodes which was a altogether more pleasent experience.

Mr. Carl Pol should be nominated MTA chairman as he has managed to hit every head on the nail of our troubled tourism industry. He is a better pulse reader than our many Profs sitting on MTA boards.

I have worked in language schools in the past. They concider 16 euros as too expensive to pay for a half day tour to go to Valletta which includes Coach (two way), profesional LICENCED guide and entrance to St. John's cathedral.
They would rather go to the bar and order one large bottle of water and fourteen glasses.

pumping money????? They scare the older tourists who do spend money and to me that's a loss. And if you sum up the vandalism they leave behind (I myself had to change my side mirrors twice) i DON'T THING THEY LEAVE SO MUCH MONEY.

Ohh I forgot...all these rowdy student, drunk arrogant smashing every car mirror they can get hold of and making such a nuisance of themselves that scare the peace loving tourist all night with their behaviour and not a policeman in sight in contrast to the agility of the police force when a coloured immigrant wants to enter a club peacefully...need I say more..MTA take note

Not surprized at all that we are in the bottom list! Apart from the advantage of the english language we have a neglegted islan. To name a few disadvantages and cons ....high prices..a pizza in malta costs more than a pizza in sweden(one of the most expensive countries in the world). Rubbish all over the place ( chech out bugibba and the beaches in general) go for a swim in sliema among plastic bags empty bottles and saundry rests of fast food. A misrable public transport with rude drivers shouting at passengers like mad dogs...One of the highest ferry prices in europe for a 20 minute trip to gozo and ahhhh gozo....3 panini and 3 cokes cost me nearly 10 euros last sathurday....Yes number 10 is not a bad placing considering the rip off.
