Industrial action at St John's suspended

Industrial action at St John' Co-Cathedral in Valletta has been withdrawn in view of a conciliation meeting to be held tomorrow, the Professionals and Services Employees Union said yesterday.

The union called workers out on what it said was a successful one-hour strike on Monday.

The foundation said that, despite the strike, it was "business as usual" at the Co-Cathedral and the adjacent museum. Union president Karmenu Vella said the union had to resort to industrial action because the foundation was only prepared to discuss the collective agreement of part-time custodians and not the rest of the pending issues.

The action was suspended after the Director of Employment and Industrial Relations, Noel Vella, informed the union of the conciliation meeting and confirmed that the foundation was prepared to discuss all the pending issues.
