Party goers admit drug possession

An Italian and a Spaniard yesterday pleaded guilty to being in possession of cannabis resin on Saturday night at Gianpula, a party venue near Rabat.

In separate arraignments, Steven Carminati, 20, a painter from Italy was placed under probation for six months and David Chaves Perea, 27, a civil servant from Spain, was given a six-month jail term suspended for a year.

Mr Perea also admitted to importing the drug. But Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona heard Police Inspector Victor Aquilina say that only two-and-a-half grammes of the drug were found on Mr Perea'sperson.

In handing down sentence, Magistrate Micallef Trigona also took into consideration his early plea.

Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared for the accused.

2.5 grams? HAHA Is this for real? How much time and money was spent to take these people to court? Well known criminals are roaming the streets, those are the one's that should be prosecuted! I can't even believe it actually made the news!
