Industrial action at St John's suspended

The Professionals and Services Employees Union has suspended industrial action at St John's Co-Cathedral and museum pending a conciliation meeting which will be held on Thursday.

The union called workers out on what it said was a successful one-hour strike yesterday morning. The foundation said that despite the strike, it was "business as usual" at the Co-Cathedral and the museum.

Union president Karmenu Vella insisted that the union had to take industrial action because the foundation had not been prepared to discuss all pending issues, but only the collective agreement of part-time custodians.

He said the actions had now been suspended after the Director of Employment and Industrial Relations, Noel Vella, informed him of the conciliation meeting and confirmed that the foundation was prepared to discuss all issues.
