Pembroke Local Council feels a little bit hurt by the attitude of Hubert Mallia (Just What Pembroke Doesn't Need: A Car Wash, August 12) since it seems he did not have the time and patience to first recieve the reply from his council before sending his letter to the press two days after we received his query.
The council was informed about the request for this permit on February 9, and immediately objected to this application on February 16. A copy of the objection letter was sent to residents in the vicinity.
On March 7, the application was withdrawn by the applicant himself in view of the Mepa DPA report which included the council's objections and which recommended the refusal of this application.
In view of all this, I think that the council was more than aware of this situation and took action immediately, obtaining a positive result with the refusal from Mepa. The council has made representations with the Ministry of Education to have these rooms rehabilitated and used for educational activities.
The note stuck on the wall mentioned by Mr Mallia was just an application and not the development permit. Every citizen has a right to apply for any sort of building/development permit to Mepa but this does not mean the individual is granted a building permit.
