Sta Marija convoy remembered in London
The George Cross Island Association yesterday held a Service of Remembrance and Commemoration at the Church of All Hallows by the Tower of London to remember the Sta Marija Convoy of August 1942.
The ceremony was attended by members of the three services and of the Merchant Navy who served in Malta during World War II as well as by Maltese High Commissioner Michael Refalo and former High Commissioner Francis .
Dr Refalo stressed that the ceremony was not intended to glorify victory and force of arms but to thank Almighty God and underline the commitment of the people of Malta and the United Kingdom to the cause of peace.
The service included the laying of wreaths at the foot of the Second Great Siege of Malta monument unveiled President Fenech Adami and the Duke of Edinburgh in 2005.

Its a shame so few attend this ceremony considering its pivotal role in the Second World War
