The police are analysing CCTV footage in a bid to indentify who was behind the scratching of about a dozen cars parked along St Ignatius' Junction in Sliema on Saturday night.

The vehicles' paintwork was damaged, in some instances on both flanks, with what seems like a sharp and pointed instrument, sources said yesterday.

There were, at the time, two CCTV cameras in operation in the area. Residents who spoke to this newspaper complained this was not the first time their cars had been targeted by vandals, both along St Ignatius' Junction and in Old College Street. Side mirrors and hubcaps have been stolen time and time again.

They also complained that they have had to endure years of dust, mud and noise all day long, including on weekends and public holidays, as apartment blocks were constructed on the site of the former Galaxy Hotel. Now that the construction work is almost complete, proper lighting should be installed, they insisted.
