Simon Mizzi recently obtained a doctorate for research in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK.
Dr Mizzi's thesis proposed and explored efficient computational methods to resolve rarefied gas phenomena characterising gaseous flows confined to micron-sized domains. The study was carried out in collaboration with the Computational Science and Engineering Department at STFC Daresbury Laboratory, UK.
Dr Mizzi began his education at St Francis School in Msida, followed by secondary education and 6th form at St Aloysius' College, Birkikara. He later obtained Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (Hons) at the University of Malta.
On completing his post-graduate studies, Dr Mizzi joined Rolls Royce PLC, UK.
His role involves utilising various novel computational tools that provide a better aero-thermal understanding. He has helped in the design of the Trent family of jet-engines for various airframes, such as the Airbus A330, A380, XWB and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
