Updated: Workers at St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation to strike

(Adds comment by St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation)

The Professionals and Services Employers Union this afternoon ordered its members employed by the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation to take strike action as from tomorrow.

The union said that earlier this month it had requested a meeting with the foundation to discuss a number of disputes between employees and the foundation, but the foundation never acknowledged this request.

The PSEU said industrial action would continue until all issues were discussed and solved.

Cynthia De Giorgio, spokesman for the foundation, told timesofmalta.com that a meeting between the foundation and the union was to have been held last Wednesday but was cancelled because the shop steward was on vacation leave.

"The ball is in their court," Ms De Giorgio said.

Ha ha ha.... the ball is in their court!!! Why, I imagine, the foundation is by no means going to leave balls in our courts when it comes to touch St. John's Co-Cathedral. Oh yes, all this perestroika of theirs !! - I am sure we are going to be given detailed information as to how the desecration of one of the world's most important cathedrals will be reduced to yet another eyesore (and that is putting it rather mildly).

How very amusing to read Ms de Giorgio's justifications, as if a new date to call another meeting cannot be fixed! Oh goodness, my sides are cracking with laughter!

Vic, you ask a set of questions, and then, without any answers, you make a statement.

To verify tyour final statement the questions needed to be answered.

The shop steward was on Vacation leave .
OK why was the meeting set for that day,
who agreed with the date ?
Was the shop steward aware of the meeting schedule.?
It is a farce to strike when it is your fault that the meeting didnt take place.

Whatever happens, please leave that wonderful cathedral alone, and don't put any modern eyesore right in the middle of it.

If I am not mistaken this is the Union of one of the GWU officials that resigned and then set up a Union. That goes to prove that workers divided are much less strong. Employers ignore non-organised workers! And such small split unions should reconsider their actual role!

this foundation is more concerned about the destruction of st. john cathedral courtyard than the dispute of its workers.from past experience the conclusion of this outcame will be that the foundation dosnt have enough money for its workers because it has to go for the destruction of st. john cathedral courtyard.but thats my opinion
